My 10:

John Alton
James Wong Howe
Sven Nykvist
Greg Toland
Nicholas Musuraca
Nestor Almendros
Vilmos Zsigmond
John Alonzo
Takao Saito
Burnett Guffey

(So far, when I've watched world cinema/foreign films [non-English]/
Criterion Collection stuff I've been paying attention to all of it,
and I've seen some incredible cinematography but have not noted who
the artists were. The above ten were off the top of my head, but are
all artists whose work I have paid very close attention to. Sometimes
I even turn off the sound, the better to see the lighting, the
camerawork, etc.)

Of the approximately 18 films shot by Todd AO, which do you think is the
best?

The best film as seen on TV or with regular projectors - or the best
illustration on how much Todd AO makes a movie better?

I've only seen one "properly" as an adult.

Good list, though I'm hard pressed to let it slide without a nod toward Bert
Glennon, William Clothier, and Lucien Ballard. Winton Hoch was no slouch,
either. Bert Glennon's kid, Jim Glennon, was damned good, too.

Er, not to put too fine an edge on the question, but Todd AO is a PROCESS
not a cinematographer.
