1939 MAN IN THE IRON MASK

Does anybody here know what is contained in the footage missing at the
end of Reel 2B in James Whale's MAN IN THE IRON MASK? The reel ends
on Joseph Shildkraut upset over a letter sent by Joan Bennett to her
father. Jump to Reel 3A and we are in the garden with Joan and Louis
Hayward and some footage is definitely gone. There is also quite a
bit of nitrate damage (I think in 2B) in the candle lighting scene.
Some dupe replacement footage as well.

When I noticed these anomalies in my 16mm print I thought it was just
in that neg; but the same damage occurs in the 35mm print recently
shown on TCM (though they inserted artificial fades at the footage
jump). I don't remember if MGM or Sony is current owner/distributor.
