Back in 1974 (when I was 18), a movie theater in Indianapolis Indiana
used to run classic movies. In the summer of 74, I got to see both a
Night at the Opera & a Day at the Races on a double bill. A few months
prior to that, that had a Chaplin Festival. They ran six features: Gold
Rush (1942 re-issue), Great Dictator, Limelight, King In New York, and
two others I did not get to see due to time other factors: Modern Times
& Monsieur Verdoux (at least I think these were the two I missed. It has
been 33 years since). Anyway, I went with a fellow classmate. Both of us
did not have a car or a driver's license at the time (It was either
college or a car and car insurance. College won), so her mom was to take
us there. She was not able to, but my father stepped in and drove us
there and stayed for the movies himself. The girl was just a friend,
though looking back, I think she maybe wanted to be more than friends. I
either didn't see the signs or I didn't want to at the time. What did I
know? I was 18 and stupid. Have not seen her since 1976, and no idea how
to contact her. I also appreciate the sacrifice my father made that day
so the two of us could go to see the films. He didn't have to stay and
see the films (though I think he enjoyed them just the same). He's since
passed on, but I still remember his doing that for us. >> Stay informed about: 1974 Chaplin festival |

Thanks, Qa. I like reading about other people's experiences seeing
Chaplin films.
I notice that they're often connected with memories of someone people
were close to--a parent, other close relative, or friend, for example.
I suppose
those are the people one tends to go to movies with, but I don't have
such
strong memories of who I was with when I saw most other films. I
wonder
why.
