I thought it was well done. They even coaxed a compelling performance
out of Hartnett, well done director Slade!
I liked the vampire's viciousness, it kept them in the frame as
completely inhuman, another species which works better in most cases
than having some Eurotrash ham acting the part of a dapper count. In
fact, their language sounded something like Klingon! The movie in a
way reminded me of "Near Dark" though it lacked the dialog ND had.
The use of Alaska as the backdrop also worked well, even if they never
set foot there for the movie. Nearly every movie done about being cut
off in some frozen waste has worked, because the environment is so
alien to the average urbanite's experience. It's like going to
another planet without leaving Earth.
My only suggestion would have been to lock Hartnett in the plant,
chained up. It would have facilitated a sequel where they try to
"cure" him rather than letting him carbonize.

See? Rich thinks the chained-up Harnett is kind of erotic. Told ya so!

I thought that he was going to take off after the other vampires at
the end. That was the impression they were giving. It was a good
film up to that point but that psuedo-romantic goth vampire ending was
a misfire. If 30 Days of Night had been a 70s movie (with Peter Fonda
in the Josh Hartnett part), the vampires would have killed everyone
and burned the town down and no one would have known about anything
what happened.
