"Great movies from the '80s" is something of an oxymoron, at least
where Hollywood is concerned. But they WERE making great movies in
Japan and Hong Kong in the 1980s, so here's 30, likewise off the top
of my head:

The Miyazaki masterpieces:
NAUSICAA OF THE VALLEY OF THE WIND
CASTLE IN THE SKY
MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO
KIKI'S DELIVERY SERVICE

Other 1980s anime movies:
AKIRA
ARION
MACROSS: DO YOU REMEMBER LOVE
THE PROFESSIONAL: GOLGO 13
WICKED CITY
CRUSHER JOE
PATLABOR: THE MOVIE
URUSEI YATSURA: ONLY YOU
URUSEI YATSURA: BEAUTIFUL DREAMER
KIMAGURE ORANGE ROAD THE MOVIE: I WANT TO RETURN TO THAT DAY
GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES

Great 1980s HK movies:
A BETTER TOMORROW
A BETTER TOMORROW II
THE KILLER
ROUGE
PEKING OPERA BLUES
A CHINESE GHOST STORY
ZU WARRIORS OF THE MAGIC MOUNTAIN
YES MADAM
POLICE STORY
PROJECT A
MIRACLES (MR. CANTON AND LADY ROSE)

BUDDHA'S PALM
8-DIAGRAM POLE FIGHTER
LEGENDARY WEAPONS OF CHINA
THE PRODIGAL SON

There, that's a start.

"Oxymoron" is a perfect word for greatest 80s movies. What a stunning
drop from the Soaring Seventies.

p.s. Isn't RAGING BULL actually the last of the seventies?
