I know I'm not the only one geeky enough to keep a list of all the
silents I've seen. This is not merely geeky but helpful, as when one
sees The Matrimaniac for the first time at a fest, only to come home
and discover... you've seen it before somewhere. No idea where.
Anyway, I knew that at some point during Cinefest, I would see my
300th silent, I just wasn't sure which it would be. It turned out to
be Daughter of the Poor, which is a worthy choice (see Cinesation post
for more detail why).
So to celebrate, here's my list of what was, by the end of the fest,
my 303 silents. In another era on AMS I might have posted it
elsewhere and linked to save bandwidth, but if others can go around
and around for 100 posts on whatever the hell they're going around and
around on this time, well, I can post the whole damn thing here and
maybe someone will find it interesting. To me it mainly serves to
embarass me by calling attention to all the things I've bought but not
yet watched-- honestly, Dennis, I do own The Chess Player and Hindle
Wakes, i just haven't watched them yet; and when I commented on Lady
Windermere's Fan, well, I still had 20 minutes to go to finish it and
put it on the list but that's surely enough to be able to comment
on... Organization is haphazard, rooted in the way I originally
figured up what I had seen to date when it was something like 80
silents. What are you surprised I've never seen? (Foolish Wives?)
What's the thing I'm the only person to have ever, ever seen? (Kean?
I Flunked, But?) What's on your list?

You are fortunate to have access to many of the films via television
or festival showings. In my home town this is not the case and I can
only hope that one day I will be able to get certain desired dvd,s >> Stay informed about: My 300 silents (long list) |

I'd never be able to keep track of the shorts.
What counts as a feature is sort of arbitrary-- I suppose the line is
somewhere around 40 minutes, but there may be things shorter than that
on there. I figure hours of Les Vampires only counting as one makes
up for it. >> Stay informed about: My 300 silents (long list) |

Surprised you've never seen: Tillie's Punctured Romance (not that
you're missing anything); A Woman of Paris; the early Harold Lloyd
features; more American Lubitsch (The Marriage Circle, Lady
Windermere's Fan and Eternal Love, all highly recommended); Riders of
the Purple Sage; The Eagle; or anything by your bête noire (pardon the

Waiting for the restoration to come my way, to give it its best shot.
Some relative gave me a cheap PD version once, but it's never risen on
my to-watch list.
> A Woman of Paris
Owned it for years. Really ought to watch it after seeing Erotikon
and come to my own conclusion about which inspired Lubitsch.
> the early Harold Lloyd features
I've seen the Time-Life cutdowns of many of them, I need to actually
watch the longer versions now that I have them, or at least some of
them.
>more American Lubitsch (The Marriage Circle, Lady Windermere's Fan and Eternal Love
Have the first two, have nearly watched all of Lady Windermere, but
got interrupted and now I guess I need to watch it from the start
again. It's stupid that I've never watched The Marriage Circle.
>Riders of the Purple Sage
I'd love to see more Mix, period!

Waiting for the new version, now.

I've seen Ten Minutes to Live and some other talkie; I started
watching the one on the Origins of Film set but got bored.
>I would add Dryer,s "Leaves out of the Book of Satan"
Probably watch The Parson's Widow first, but I have both (off TCM).
>MUSKETEERS OF PIG ALLEY
>A FLORIDA ENCHANTMENT
The former isn't a feature, but I have seen it. (For that matter, is
Elderbush Gulch long enough to count?) What I haven't seen is Judith
of Bethulia. As for Florida Enchantment, I have the Origins of Film
set, don't know why I haven't watched it yet.
