I believe that the crew had left the gear in their truck overnight after a
late wrap. The vehicle was broken into in front of the house where it was
parked in Sherman Oaks, CA. The police are involved, and the lesson here is
one we all hopefully already know- never leave your gear in your car. Ever.
Buy good production insurance. Always. Know and trust your crew. Do good
work.

And always make sure you lock the doors on the vehicle, if you forget
and don't lock up the insurance won't pay, you will.

I seriously doubt this was a robbery by pure chance. More likely the bad
guys knew what was in the truck before it was parked.
A dozen 416's on one production? Sounds like a helluva mixing
job.<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Strange that no mxers were listed as stolen. Sounds like a gear package
for a reality TV show with 6 or 7 crews on it.
Hope you guys get the gear back.

How stupid can someone be ? You do not leave $70.000 eq. in a car
overnight without a guard.
I don't know how it is over there at your US west coast, but over here
insurance will never pay in cases like this.

Was the theft after or before the job? Was it under the insurance of
the production company? Who signed the rental contract? If the truck
was parked (and not alarmed?)
somewhere where none of the gear was taken out and thus visible to the
neighborhood (ie, it's just another truck), then it does sound like an
inside job. And yes, the best place to sell such a package would be
in the third world.

In the third world no one know what is the good product is ,so you
probably don't do much money on stolen goods, the best place to sell is in
east Europe or south America or Israel :-) the lectro is very popular here
,Australia is a nice place to look also ,big cheap TV and film industries
,that remind me that in 93 I shoot in azerbadgan with quiet new 400a which
in that time cost about 45000$ with the lens and someone came and ask me if
we can sell him the camera, I thought that he is kidding an suggested that
for 25 gran its his ,the guy left and came back after half hour and sad that
it ok but he wants the zahler too(5000$),he came with10000 in his pocket for
the deposit and sad that the rest he will bring to the hotel in the
evening,we told him that we will think about it,he was very desponded .
for fast cash those who stole the gear will get not more than 20% ,but it
looks that people that did it new exactly what are they looking for and
probably will not sell it in close time in the states or threw the web so
the best place is to check with local soundmen and cameraman outside of us
and of course look for those who looking for similar not working items for
robbing housing for the serial number (quiet tough job for to find not
working lectro211 or 416 ;-)),
