744T Firmware at NAB

Did anyone get to see or hear about the new firmware for the 744T that
SD announced would be at NAB? I'm hoping they will make it possible to
easily stack machine for multitrack with related metadata linking but
I don't know if that's the plan. The FLAC support seems like a great
step too. I am still looking for details and hands-on opinions.
Here's the press release excerpt:
REEDSBURG, Wisconsin-April 06, 2007-Sound Devices will be previewing
its next release of firmware for the 7-Series family of file-based
digital recorders. This new firmware adds several important new
features to the recorders, including lossless audio compression, MP3
recording, and multi-unit linking enhancements.

I only wish that the new fireware can allow for recording 8 channels
to a single bwf.... doubtful but hey thats why its a wish. Right now
I already have 2 744Ts, one primary, one backup. Whenever I need more
than the 4 channels for ISO I use a MOTU 896HD into Boom Recorder and
the AES outputs into a 744T. While this works well, I can only hope
that my 2 744Ts would be enough by themselves.
