I have spoken with Matt Anderson asking if he would make a setup file
for the start up menu for owners to program with there contact
information. He loves the idea and is working on it now. This will
allow you to, for example, have the startup menu read:

PROPERTY OF:
JOHN DOE
Phone: (123) 123-4567
email :john@doe.com
REWARD IF RETURNED

or whatever information you would want it to display instead of the
Sound Devices logo during start the start up sequence.

I´d rather have a summing headphone and output matrix *very soon* than
have the SD programmers bother about "gadgets" like custom splash
screens.

don´t get me wrong. this might be nice to have you own name card on
the 744 but there are things way more necessary.

I´d say: but at the end of the list of to-do´s ;-)

frank.

They are not currently working on this, but it is on their list of "to
do" items - which is very long

Still learning my 744t. One thing I have noticed that when recording
the tone key does not provide an auditable sound in the headphones.
When set to send tone to outputs and files, the tone does appear on the
file but you don't actually hear it when recording.

Is this a setting I have missed or can this be added to future firmware
updates? Anyone else find this a little annoying?

Ironically that was exactly my concern...that the tone key would get
hit while recording and because it wasn't heard on headphones would go
by unnoticed.

The thing is while playing around with it earlier I did get tone on my
recordings but I never hit the record/tone together (must have missed
that part in the manual). After going back to figure out how I did get
tone without hitting the combo I realized that if you hit the tone key
and then hit record within the preroll time the 744 will record that
tone even though you didn't hit the two buttons together.

Thank you for the clarification Matt. I am going to go re-read manual
and feel like a horse's posterior now.

:-)

No reason to feel bad. You would be surprised a the number of users who
haven't read the manual. I guess that can be a good thing as well as a
bad thing.

I don't have any problem with my 744 after version 1.24.
