Hi there, I was looking to draw on the considered experience of the
sound fellows who have perhaps used 2 x 744t's linked together. I do
understand the concept, master/slave etc, but wondered how you deal
with the file burns and generally getting the files out of the
machines, also all the metadata that is generated.

Do you have to manually input into the 2 machines constantly all the
takes and scene numbers etc.. ?
Can you get all the files as a poly from 1 machine ? Are they labelled
the same or do they have info that indicates what machine they came
from and also the track numbers (1-8)..
Frame rates etc..

Any info, good and bad bits and anything else that may be relevant to
a film set up using 2 recorders for 8 tracks of audio please..

Many thanks, John McCombie..

No, but you have to reset each machine according to your chosen scheme
first, before you hit record on the master. After that, the file names will
be created in sequence on each machine, provided you don't do something
dumb, like hit "record" on the slave.

No.

Consider them as individual products. There is a menu option for prefixing
the file name with a fixed string. So, my master creates files with names
like "A***", while the slave creates files with names like "B***" Other
than that, they follow whatever sequence scheme you have set up.

Set the timecode on the slave to "external".

Hi John,

Like Bob said, the best way to think of this is two seperate
recorders. The link cable passes timecode and transport control so
every other recorder function has to be set on both recorders. This is
even so far as setting the slave to external timecode for it to see
the timecode coming into the link connector.

When i did this several firmware revisions ago i remember i had a
problem with the way i recorder defined the scene name using A or B,
basically when you have your files in one folder under windows it was
hard to sort them alphabetically the way i did it. With the latest
firmware being able to put use higherarchical folders and also being
able to name tracks you'll probably find a better workflow.

To be honest, i felt that more communication could have been going on
between the recorders like automatically setting the scene name on the
slave recorder and also allowing track number syntax of 5 to 8 on the
slave, to be honest i haven't tried this with the new firmware so it
might be a lot beter now.

Best of luck, feel free to email if you have any more questions, Mat
Adams.
