Hi John,
Like Bob said, the best way to think of this is two seperate
recorders. The link cable passes timecode and transport control so
every other recorder function has to be set on both recorders. This is
even so far as setting the slave to external timecode for it to see
the timecode coming into the link connector.
When i did this several firmware revisions ago i remember i had a
problem with the way i recorder defined the scene name using A or B,
basically when you have your files in one folder under windows it was
hard to sort them alphabetically the way i did it. With the latest
firmware being able to put use higherarchical folders and also being
able to name tracks you'll probably find a better workflow.
To be honest, i felt that more communication could have been going on
between the recorders like automatically setting the scene name on the
slave recorder and also allowing track number syntax of 5 to 8 on the
slave, to be honest i haven't tried this with the new firmware so it
might be a lot beter now.
Best of luck, feel free to email if you have any more questions, Mat
Adams.
