The theory that he MIGHT have stolen it from that dopey "Internet
bachelor" website guy is looking better and better--

....People, PEO-ple!:
Comics *always* borrow elements from their own private life to turn into
character shtick...It's what they do for a living!
And if they happen to do a backstage imitation of something or someone
in their daily life that strikes them funny, waste not want not--It's
all material fodder.
An SNL comic can't just walk out on stage and say "Folks, here's an
imitation of my annoying neighbor next door; you wouldn't know him, but
this'll piss him off!"--So, they try to use the art of their craft to
try and put it into some "character concept" source-context for their act:
Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, for ex., wouldn't take the time to explain
about the guy at the favorite Chicago Greek diner they used to go to, or
Jerry Seinfeld wouldn't give long backstories about the guy with the NY
soup kitchen...But, when they have to come up with a written TV sketch
that week, say, folks, wouldn't it be funny IF there was this crazy
Greek-diner guy who only served "cheese-burger and Pepsi", or a guy who
said "No soup for you!"?--Fictional, remember, we're only saying "if"!
Cohen obviously saw the cult website, loved the Net-kitsch element
enough to poke a few foreigner-in-thong jokes behind the guy's back,
and...say, maybe we can use that on next week's show! ;)

Neither is Turkey--Whatever.

New DVD releases - Faster I found this film to be really entertaining. It is what it is - a meat and potatoes action film. That said, there are also some effective twists in the plot that make it better than most from this genre of action film. I very much enjoyed Dwayne....
Bad Feeling about Silver Surfer - From the trailers, he looks bizarre and inhuman, and might inspire revulsion in people. He may not inspire the intrigue and awe, that his psychedelic imagery did in the 60's.
Pan's Labyrinth - I thought it was a thought-provoking film, however the obvious leftist bent irritated me.
Mr. Brooks was very entertaining - A well-done movie. Not a thriller, not a regular serial killer movie, the dialog and pacing made it near-perfect. Costner's best part in some time. If the killings had been more flambouyant, Costner could have gotten a sequel out of it. |
