Hi All,
I ordered the following, all brand new, never used - picking it up
locally:
1 x MKH60 ($1,539.95 @ B&H)
1 x KTek 102CCR ($564.05 @ B&H)
1 x Rycote Windshield Kit #4 ($629.00 @ B&H)
Came out to a little under $2400, retails at B&H for $2,733 (before
tax). Obviously I saved money on retail, but I'm wondering if I
should have bought some of the stuff used and saved a bit more. I
would appreciate your input.
Thanks,

You can get a MKH-60 in ebay for about $1000.00 a few available now. >> Stay informed about: Bought some gear on ebay - pretty sure it was a good deal... |

Well that was my point - you can get them cheaper used, but who knows
what you're getting yourself into? I would prefer to buy new
equipment, but was wondering what other people's input is on that
matter.
There is a saying, something like "Quality is remembered long after
price is forgotten," and I was thinking that it applied in this
circumstance.

Well, since you've already bought it, I don't know what the point of
this is. But audio equipment tends to be a safer bet to buy used than
a lot of stuff. Still, I'm a little leery of eBay myself. I'd probably
tend to go with used dealers like Trew and ATS. I see Marty's got a
used CS3 for $1,000 right now, although I'd want to verify that's a
CS3e, not the older model CS3. >> Stay informed about: Bought some gear on ebay - pretty sure it was a good deal... |

You could have saved a few bucks, but take it from me, used mics can
burn you! I bought a used 416T for a great deal (Ebay), sounded fine,
but the guts didn't fit tightly into the tube and it rattled around
slightly, and it had a bit of corrosion which leads me to believe it
had been exposed to rain or worse.
A reputable consignment shop (Trew, etc) would be much safer.
That being said, I buy used all the time, lol

I may be alone in my opinion on this but I think that it is short
sighted to base your purchases based on price alone, the support and
help that places like Trew and Gotham have provided me with over the
years is hard to put a price on. Wait until you try and get B&H on the
phone if you have an issue with one of the items and you will
understand what I mean, Peter and Glen have helped me out over and
over when my back was against the wall. I understand that you are
starting to build your package and your base decision is based on
price but I believe that over the years this will change. >> Stay informed about: Bought some gear on ebay - pretty sure it was a good deal... |

Hi there!
I know Trew (trew audio), but I don't know ATS. Can you give me there
site (url)?
Thanks. >> Stay informed about: Bought some gear on ebay - pretty sure it was a good deal... |

I've been pretty happy with buying from both used and new. I would
recommend determining the amount a repair could cost you could incur
if something is not right. Usually if something is too good to be
true, it probably is. Ebay can be a good source but try and
communicate with the seller first. It will generally give you a good
idea of what type of person they are and that generally translates
into the quality of gear that you receive. It's no different that
buying a used car. Sometimes you get a great deal, and sometimes you
get a lemon. I've been overwhelmingly happy with all sorts of used
stuff on ebay. Audio gear especially. >> Stay informed about: Bought some gear on ebay - pretty sure it was a good deal... |

Agreed, you need to do as much research as you can with used gear.
I have bought alot of mics on ebay and always try and get serial
numbers, find out the age and how much use the item has seen etc. And
yes, if a seller is a bad communicator and wont provide details I
stear clear.
Well built industry standard gear can take a beating and getting
something thats a few years old and been looked after can often be a
good deal
Looks like punk saved a little and got some solid gear. Hopefully no
regrets!

Yep - picked up the gear today. Could tell by looking at it that none
of it was ever touched before. I'm pretty excited about it. Waiting
for my Wendt X5 to come on Friday. After that, I just need some
COS-11's and some radios and I'm set with a standard ENG package.
Can't wait! >> Stay informed about: Bought some gear on ebay - pretty sure it was a good deal... |
