I saw this when first released and didn't care for it too much, I
think I was disappointed in the lack of actual Scottish locations,
however I saw it again a couple of nights ago and found myself
thoroughly enjoying it, perhaps I've just mellowed over the years.
Recognizing the fact that it is just a filmed stage production the
sets are actually quite pleasing.

I'd forgotten how very good Barry Jones was in it, his lengthy
telling of the Brigadoon legend to Gene Kelly could have been a bore
but he made it literally spell-binding and at sixty years old he more
than held his own with professional dancers with a lively reel in the
wedding number.

Cyd Charrise was sort of an unlikely looking Scottish lass but who
cared.

Highpoints for me was the fore mentioned wedding scenes with the
gathering of the pipe playing clans enmassing (where did they all come
from I wonder?) and Gene Kelly's _Almost Like Being in Love_ number.

I watched some of it recently. My trouble was I had mixed it up with
"Finian's Rainbow", so the "Scottish" flavour puzzled me:-)
Not my cup of tea.

Stone me.

I'd watch the whole thing again just to hear "Heather on the Hill".

Uh..yeah.. it was Lerner and Leowe.
Camelot (is that English enough?)
My Fair Lady
Gigi
Paint Your Wagon

Lerner also collabotated with Kurt Weill and worked on the film "Royal
Wedding" (Fred Astaire.) He also contributed to the book for "An
American in Paris" At the time of his death, he had just began to
work with Andrew Lloyd Webber on "Phantom of the Opera."

It's already been mentioned in par, but Cyd Charise was one of the two
or three best-looking women to ever step in front of a camera. Her
Scottishness - or lack thereof - might well never enter the mind of
any male viewer with sufficient hormones to generate beard growth.

I was about four feet from her in an elevator five years ago, and she was
the prettiest 81 year old woman I've seen.

Pretty much uh, no way did we care if she was actually Scottish, and I'm
1/4 Scot myself. Basically for me, when I saw it I was 14, so it was
like, holy moley, look at those legs. = )

She's aged at least as well as Sophia Loren, and that's saying
something.
