Post subject: Bye bye old movies
Archived from groups: rec>arts>movies>past-films (more info?)

The journey to reach the lowest commn denominator for all TV programming
has just about been accomplished: " arts " have gone away ( when I think
of PBS I think primarily of their management passing the hat ) and
stations ( Moremax, Encore Drama, The Movie Channel, etc.) that
formerly aired older ( 40`s - 70`s ) selections have switched to much
more recent titles only. I`m amazed by the dull junk on The Independent
Film Channel and Sundance. TCM rarely shows anything not shown at least
a half dozen times before.

Going Out to See Movies You Own - Box office revenues are going down, while DVD sales are going up. It's pretty obvious that people are choosing to watch movies at home rather than at theaters. With new movies, there really isn't much of a choice. If you want to see a movie when it's....
