Confused About New Chaplin Book - Hi I recently purchased Vance's new book on Chaplin and love it, and I was also seeking to buy Michel Comte's A Photo I finally saw it at a local Borders today, but looking through it, something seemed amiss. I recall..

Chaplin mentions in Huxley book - I don't know when I got into the habit of checking the index of every book I read for mentions of Charlie Chaplin (am I the only one with that weird habit?), but I found a few mentions in a new biography of the British writer (and, like Chaplin,

I was recently at The Strand (like 20 minutes ago) and stumbled over a
boko called "Charlie Chaplin Movie Posters." Text in French and
English.
Anyone else seen this? This was the first I'd heard of it -- and you
guys are usually pretty good at getting the word out on stuff like
this.

I bought this book, via mail order from The Strand - and returned it - last
year.
It looks good at first - nice large hardback, color pix, etc., etc., But
then, when you look closely, it's mostly later-Chaplin period talkies (plus
a few silent) in French. the text was mostly French, the commentary French,
and the reissued posters in French.
Just did not think it was worth $40.

So many books are published on Chaplin in so many countries that it
would be impossible to know about all of them. One of my prize
acquisitions is a children's book published in France called _A
Day with Charlie Chaplin_. I got it from a museum bookstore in Paris,
and have never seen it anywhere else.
At the Chaplin-Kono conference in Japan, I acquired a book publsihed
in Japan which contained a number of pictures I had not seen before.
It is in Japanese, and I doubt that it can be found anywhere outside
of Japan.

Sorry about the delay. I completely forgot about this discussion forum.
Beside the familiar books
(My Autobiography, C.C. by John McCabe) I got a nice book for my birthday
'Chaplin' Genius of the Cinema, by Jeffrey Vance. Quite a long time ago I
was browsing on a second-hand book market and found a book - in german -
written by
Fritz Hirzel and called 'Chaplins Schatten', Bericht einer
Spurensicherung. It has lots of reproductions of pictures from the early
days till 'A King in New York'. I'll treasure that one for sure.

cover?If so, I found it on ebay a couple of years ago. It seems like there are

No, that's another one. The one I picked up (by Hiroyuki Ono, who organized
the Japan Chaplin conference) was recently published and was mainly about
Kono. We have several Japanese books on Chaplin, but I don't think we have
that one.
