I just received an email alert from Amazon that a new 'Remastered' version of
"The Kid" was available October 1 on DVD. The company releasing this DVD is
'A2ZCDS Inc.' according to Amazon.

I thought the 2 box sets (Warner Home Video) I purchased a few years ago were
the definitive versions of all of Chaplin's post Mutual films. Anyone here know
why this new release has surfaced.

This is nothing to get excited about. It's just another DVD release
of a film in public domain.

If it truly is a new find of better material, there will be
information about that on the amazon page or the company's web site.
If there is no information, don't replace your box set version.

I never replaced my Image DVD version. :-)

A2ZCDS sells DVD-Rs. I bought HIS FIRST FLAME from them, and it's
unwatchable. Don't bother.

The Image DVD should never be replaced since it contains Chaplin's
original version of the film, with footage he removed from it, unwisely,
in 1971. (Cue Chaplinistas.)

They had the box sets at Costco last week for $65 but I couldn't bring
myself to buy them. I'm sure eventually I will, just for some of the
extras.

Exactly why I never replaced it, or any of the Image DVDs, but I did
pick up THE GOLD RUSH, just for the original version of course. The
best extra ever included on a Chaplin DVD: the actual film.
