Chaplin's "Modern Times" will be playing a theatrical engagement at the Film
Forum in NYC over the week between Christmas and New Year's.
Showtimes are 1:20, 3:20, 5:20, 7:20 and 9:20
Before that, from December 12-25, they will be having a retrospective of the
films of Chaplin's abortive protege (and a special favorite of George Shelps),
Josef von Sternberg.
The Sternberg films to be shown include three silents: "Underworld" on December
15 (with his first talkie, "Thunderbolt"); "The Last Command" on the 17th and
"Docks of New York" on the 18th.
They will *not* be showing "The Sea Gull," alas. :(

"The people can always be brought to the bidding
of the leaders...All you have to do is to tell them
they are being attacked, and denounce the
pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the
country to danger."
