Has anyone gotten this yet? What's the verdict?

I've got the Australia (R2) two-set (1954 and 1956 versions), but this one
is R1 and has some better extras.

Don't have the Australian one but the Classic Media version was just
fine from where I sit.

Some have complained about the shape of the print used for it. It is
pretty dirty. I wouldn't have thought much of it, but I've heard that
Toho has released a much cleaner version in Japan. The extras are okay.

That "cleaner print" is a myth. The CM dvd is created from the toho
master that Toho used for their own japanese print. It's just that in
general, they didn't take great care of it, and they have pulled it out
a few times to strike new prints, but it's the same quality as the
Classic Media print.

Oh, well that's good to know. I was a little disappointed when I heard
it. Glad it's not true.

I have both the official region 2 Japanese dvd release of "Gojira" and the
new Classic Media region 1 release and the Japanese dvd features a print and
transfer that looks a bit superior to the Classic Media dvd. The Classic
Media print is far more scratched and dirty looking but the contrasts and
blacks on the CM transfer are better than the Japanese dvd print.

It's the same print. Just that the dust and scratches are more noticable
because CM did turn up the contrast a bit.

One thing I loved about the disc was the way that it treated GODZILLA
KING OF THE MONSTERS - the commentary is great all the way. A good
historical perspective on the importance of that version of the film.

I have the BFI disc too and it's too bad that the documentary included
on it about the Lucky Dragon sailors dying from the U.S. atomic test
wasn't included on the CM disc. It really does set up the historical
context of GOJIRA very well.

Still, the package is as good as many Criterion discs I think, and way
better than I ever expected to see for GODZILLA.

Myth? My copy I got from Japan is clean and looks 10 times better than
the scratched Gojira R1 release. And the yellow subtitles are stupid

I already explained why it appears that way.

Scimitar or Classic Media? - I read somewhere online that the Classic Media DVD of Godzilla, King of the Monsters was somewhat better that the Scimitar version. Any truth to that? Thanks! BTW - The article also said that the rest of the CM discs are awful. Hugo Ball

can you get "Gojira" - in the US?

Gojira DVD - Picked this up Sept 5th, and I am very disappointed in the picture quality. Grainy with scratches and dots through the whole picture. The 2 guys giving the audio commentary said this is the best print? I have a bootleg copy and the picture is crystal..

Classic horror question... - I guess this may be directed to those under thirty of the group.... Are the classic horror films of the 1930's THAT good, or was it that I grew up with this stuff and it made such a strong impression in my youth ? I'd like to think that yes, they were...
