I also posted this in the Sound Devices Support Group.

Friday about 10 hours into my day, my 744 started beeping. I didn't
know what the beep was and then on the next take it did it again at
around 1 minute into the take. That time I noticed that the CF started
blinking. I took out the CF card and checked it on my computer. It
wouldn't mount. I blew it out with air and put it back into the 744. It
loaded and then 2 takes later, it beeped and blinked again. This time
though I couldn't get it to load on my computer or the 744. I took it
out and finished the day. I ended up buying a new CF card over the
weekend to use tomorrow on set. I'm just wondering what the average use
time is for a CF card? I bought this last November so it's only 7
months old. I format it everyday so maybe I did get a good llife out of
it but I'd like to know if anyone else has had this kind of lifespan
out of them.
Thanks

I called Sound Devices and asked them which CF cards they recommended
before I ordered my 702T. After a short discussion, I decided to go
with the Sandisk Ultra II's mainly because Sandisk is a local company
and I have dealt with them before--as a vendor and a customer.

A couple of years ago I had a relatively new Memory Stick go bad with
about 100 vacation images on it. It was still under warranty, so I
dropped the MS off at one of their offices and two days later I
received a package via UPS with a replacement stick and a CD containing
the recovered files.

Well I'm glad to say that yesterday I contacted Lexar Media on their
live support part of the website. After I explained to the rep what had
happend, he issued an RMA # and told me that he would authorize a
replacement even without the reciept in hand. After this experience I
will definitely use more from Lexar knowing that they stand behind
their products.
