Hi:
I am concerned about the retaining clips that hold the three DVDs in
their case on my new Alfred Hitchcock Presents Season One set. There
may be different clips on your set so you may want to check.
The retaining clips on my R1 NTSC set are the type that make it very
hard to remove the DVD from the case. Even when you depress the
center, the retaining clips put substantial pressure on centre hole
and one has to actually pry the disks out of the case.
In time, this will cause breakage of the center holes of the disks.
If this bothers you like it does me I suggest you contact Universal
and complain as I am doing. A letter is better than an email but why
not do both?
I am especially sensitive to this problem because my Criterion "THE
LADY VANISHES" case has the same type of brutally tight retaining
clips and I learned my lesson the hard way. The inside of the hole on
that disk had become chipped.
I suggest everyone who has sets with these inferior cases, consider
changing them for storage purposes to a more disk friendly style case.
Unfortunately the case style is not one where you can just slip the
printed portion into a new case.
Also, you might consider what I am doing with all my DVDs now. I play
the original once to make sure it has no defects and then make a
backup/play disk and put the original away permanently.
Best wishes,
Vic
