Archived from groups: uk>media>home-cinema (more info?)

Hi,

I was thinking about ditching my old 14" portable tv that I have in
the bedroom with a 15" LCD tv, somthing like the Sharp LC-15S1E which
Dixons seem to be selling for about £400.

But it only has a Scart socket so is there a device I can buy which
would convert the aerial socket to a Scart socket. I could buy a
cheapo video recorder but part of the reason for ditching the old
portable is to get back some space.

Thanks
Andy

Why not get a little freeview box??
That way you get digital and more channels!

It's a monitor not a TV so it does not have a built in tuner. You need
to get something like a Freeview box which contains a tuner and has a
SCART output.

Guy,
I had not looked too closely at the spec - I was assuming it had a
tuner built in. Unfortunatly the area where I live (north London) does
not have Freeview available.

Thanks

You can't get Freeview in North London? Do you live inside a lead lined box
or something?

:-) If he lives near where I did (back of Hampstead Heath) then he's on
the north side of a hill and in it's shadow from most London
transmitters. I was living at NW11 7JB and the best analogue signal was
Anglia...

But he's still blissfully ignorant. If it's a TV, it's got a tuner. Look
more closely and you will find an RF socket. If not, then it's not a bloody
TV is it! A scart lead doesn't carry RF.
If it's a monitor with a scart input then get a VCR and use that tuner

I'm in Finchley and am fairly close to the bottom of a dip in the land.

Thanks

Indeed.

No, not normally. You'd be safer off saying that a SCART lead does not
carry ships!

Given the Freeview problems.

Ah. Hampstead Hill to the south which blocks out Crystal Palace and I
don't know what to the north of you...

No, I suggested a freeview box and he said he had no freeview reception.

He had analogue TV reception.
