Post subject: Criterion Hitchcock DVDs: out-of-print?
Archived from groups: alt>movies>hitchcock (more info?)

Now that I am hooked on Criterion DVDs, I am unable to locate any more
sets of five of the Hitchcock collection. The web site
www.criterionco.com is useless when looking for Hitchcock films: the
only ones listed are the five I already have: "Wrong Men & Notorious
Women: Five Hitchcock Thrillers, 1935-1946." This suggests to me that
all other H. films are now out-of-print. I sincerely hope not. They
do have an interesting selection of films of other
directors I admire: Eisenstein, Cocteau, Kurosawa, and Ingmar Bergman.

Does anyone have a phone number of Criterion? What about a mailing
address? Or email address? I DON'T want to order anything over the
internet.

As Vic Evans said, there are other good Hitchcock DVDs on the market,
and I just might heed his advice. I'm afraid I'm a purist at heart,
however, when it comes to art, literature, classical music, opera, and
great films: in films, I want to see the very best and most definitive
print available (doesn't everyone?). I have lived with these wretched
VHS copies for years, and now I want only the very best on the market.
Ideally, if at all possible, I recommend seeing any great film, or
classic film, in a movie palace, like Grauman's Chinese Theater, for
instance: no DVD can compare with this experience.

I'll have more to say about DVDs when I have had a chance to chew and
digest everything. By the way, I'm disappointed in the low volume on
these DVDs.

The above was an unfinished post that escaped from me.

I was trying to say --

I hope it is eventually released on Region 1 DVD or Region 0 or one of
my Hitchcock friends with the ability play/record both PAL and NTSC
will make me a VHS copy of it.
Best wishes,
