It's often at a higher bit rate too - if that's the case for a particular
disc then it's likely better quality. IMHO DTS has better transient
response and if it's there, I'll always select it over DD. Dolby supports
night mode which DTS doesn't so if your amp is set with night mode on, DTS
will sound better!

Lossless these days tends to mean "not compressed by using a perceptual
encoding algorithm to deliberately remove data".

However if your source audio is 24-bit 96kHz and you down-sample to
16-bit 48kHz "lossless", you've still lost data. Whether anyone could
tell the difference is a moot point since most people can't tell the
difference with high-bitrate "lossy" compression either.

It's all perception. However, bandwidth has finally caught up and we now no
longer require lossy compression...
