In the last two weeks, I have checked bargain bins in several video and
discount stores and found many Alfred Hitchcock DVDs from the better
sets for-sale at bargain prices.
I have seen Universal Hitchcock DVDs (sometimes "Previously Viewed")
for as little as $2.99 CAN$. Recently I even picked up a gently used
copy of the Criterion "The Lady Vanishes" for a steal at $7.99 CAN in
Blockbusters. Recently I have also seen "Mr & Mrs Smith", "Dial 'M'
..." , "Rope", "To Catch a Thief", "Lifeboat" and "The Birds" all for
under $9.99 in Canadian dollars.
If you are missing Hitchcock DVDs and don't have the money for to pay
the ridiculous amounts asked on
www.ebay.com sometimes, don't give up
hope. Patience and persistence will pay off. I urge you to check your
discount stores and video stores regularly.
I also have seen the occasional excellent deal on eBay where the seller
describes the DVD or set poorly.
I have also seen some acceptable sets of early Hitchcock movies very
cheap lately at "WallyWorld" (aka Walmart).
They also have been selling the "Outer Limits" original season one with
32 episodes for less than $20 CAN$ so I expect that in the next year or
so you will see the AHP Season One selling for a similar amount.
If you find a bargain, please let us know what you found and where.
Best wishes and good luck,
Vic Evans
