What do you call the type of Russian dancing they were doing at the
wedding reception? Or is it just called Russian dancing?

I think you are referring to the "kazachka" or Cossack dance. Arms crossed,
squatting, kicking the legs out from under in time with the music. Tough
to do
unless you are in top shape.

Elsewhere called tchotchek.

Always reminds me of the scene from one of Sellers' Clouseau movies
where he tries it and splits his pants open.

How about the "dignity, always dignity" sequence at the beginning of
_Singin' in the Rain_ when Don and Cosmo in loud checked suits are
squatting, kicking, "playing" violins, and singing "Fit as a Fiddle" all
at the same time?

You noticed only Walken ( a hoofer) among the featured players did it.

You call it Russian folk dancing.

One of the dances they do is called Troika, referring to sledges/
carriages drawn by three horses.

school is going to spoonerise her name.

Presumably because he assumed that his readers would not have read _Mad_

How do you know when Simon made the remark?

I don't, but I think that the writers for _Mad_ magazine at the time
were cleverer than Simon.
