Wow, what a great movie. I hope Scorsese wins big at the Oscars.
Much more enjoyable than Gangs of New York and The Aviator, both
good movies. Definitely to be watched again before returning the
DVD. It will be missing the suspense the second time around, but
still will have plenty to appreciate. But what great suspense it was.
DiCaprio's best role, IMO, making me a fan unexpectedly.

Why didn't you see it when it was first released in theaters?

I didn't expect it to be any better than 'Gangs of New York'
and 'The Aviator', both of which I liked but not as much as hoped.

He was probably protesting those commies Martin Sheen and Sir Alec
Baldwin being in the film.

Do I know you? Certainly not as well as you presume to
know me.

Even sub-par Scorsese is worth seeing in the theater.

I prefer seeing movies on DVD at home, because I have what
I think is excellent sound and video in a small room devoted
to watching movies. The room is darkened, and the monitor
is black, so when brightness is properly adjusted, the
widescreen frame floats in darkness, just as in a theater,
and I see the large (for me) image from four feet away.
The experience is much better than in any theater, for me,
and I care about technical quality of presentation.

I also care about the annoying jerks that one has to be
distracted by in theaters, and these are totally absent at
home.

In 2006 I saw only three movies in theaters, because they
were three that I didn't want to wait for the DVDs to see.

I like those annoying jerks. Or I should say I can at least tolerate
those annoying jerks because I like being around a crowd of people
watching a movie and getting a sense of how what's happening on screen
is effecting the people in the audience, even if the response isn't
very favorable. I like that immediate feedback. I'm really
interested in audience response. I watch movies at home every night
but all the other distractions--the news channels, puttering around
with my MP3 player, worrying about work the next day, knowing I can
stop a DVD at any point and pick up on it later--are more of a
distraction than the dorks you run into at the local multiplex.

WTC was not very good, IMO. I'll bet Oliver Stone is
kicking himself for not waiting longer, and coming out with
a big 9/11 conspiracy movie, which would have been right
up his alley.

I don't knwo if you know me, I've been around for year but I know you
as far as you've revealed yourself through your posts all these years
and most of those posts reveal buffoonery.

You say that you have been around for a year, and then you refer
to my posts of 'all these years'. If that means that you have been
looking up previous posts of mine, I think you have revealed
something about yourself that is worse than buffoonery.

I can relate to that somewhat. In Atlanta during the 80s and
90s, and in Washington before that, sometimes audiences
enhanced the movie experience, especially audiences for
foreign and Woody Allen movies. But the audiences in
middle Georgia in the 21st century haven't been anything
to brag about. My oldest memory of a movie audience
affecting the experience positively was the Sunday afternoon
audience for The Desperate Hours in 1955. It was
uncharacteristically deathly quiet, as everyone was
engrossed in the movie.

That was supposed to say years, it was a typo.
