This may sound like a stupid question but have searched a range of forums to
no avail.

Have jsut purchased a new CD player which is the 1st I've owned with a
digital coax connection rather than analogue left & right.

Interested to know which would be the best to use and why

Thanks for any help anyone can offer

Scott

That entirely depends on the quality of the DAC in whatever you have
the CD player connected to. Simple enough to set up a blind comparison
in this case, and see if there actually is any *audible* difference -
unlikely. BTW, I'm presuming that you mean 'as well as', rather than
'rather', since only a CD transport rather than a CD player will fail
to have analogue outputs.

Stewart, thanks

You are right I did mean "as well as". Cd player is a Cambridge Audio Azur
640c and the amp it is connected to is a denon avr 1920

I assume from your post that you expect there to be little difference
between analogue and digital connections

Digital better to use for obviuis reasons. You personally may not be able
to tell the difference but thats the same with a lot of things.
For the sake of a £10 coax cable your better to use this.

there is little point in me going into the full technical facts here.
use your common sense - digital is the better choice for 'OBVIOUS REASONS'
but the op 'may' not actually notice a sound difference
between this and his current phono cables.

What obvious reasons? If your CD player DAC is better than the one in
your amp, it may be better to use it.

## Are you talking about connecting the cd player to the amp via phono
connectors instead of a coax?

I'd suggest spending less than £10.

## ive never been able to find any really cheap coax cables unless poundland
have started selling them.

No, please treat us to the full technical facts. Those of us who are in
complete agreement with Jim, Mark and Stewart will be fascinated to
learn what they are.

I've given up to be honest. The DAC in the Denon is the better choice and
therefore I have recommended coax. As i've already mentioned, the OP may
not notice any difference the coax would simply be my recommendation. To
me its a no brainer given the info supplied, It's just common sense to go
with the coax. As with everything there are technical arguments
for both sides, but to be honest i don't care if you agree with me and i
just cant be arsed
to hunt down all the technical specs on the models listed to make a useless
point. At the end of the day its only
my personal opinion afterall.

Who says the DAC in the Denon is better? do you think you could hear a
difference? What's the jitter rejection like on the S/PDIF receiver?

We may perhaps agree that you have no brains, that's certainly true.

Quite so, and one which you cannot back up.

Give it a try and see. I made a point of connecting up my Marantz CD
player to my Yamaha 640 via digital, but I actually preferred the sound
via Analogue.
My older Technics CD player showed a large improvement though. Horses
for courses.

Cheers
