When projecting some old 8mm home colour films on my father's Bauer
T10 projector, the image on the screen suddenly became much dimmer
than usual (speed & timing were still as normal). The bulb is OK (&
we've had the same results with a new replacement bulb).

Any suggestions as to cause? All the lenses seem OK. Could it be a
mechanical obstruction of some sort, or does the shutter need
lubrication (& if so, what lubricant should I use)? A small area at
the bottom right of the projected image appears brighter than the rest
of the picture.

I'd appreciate any suggestions/solutions. (Please don't reply to my
e-mail address.)

Nigel

PS On another NG it was suggested that I may have touched the control
dropping a heat absorbing shutter into the light-path. I haven't yet
had time to check this out.

Sounds as if there is a fire shutter that is supposed to close only
when you choose still protection that has closed inappropriately.

Generally, these are arranged so that a spring (or gravity) causes
them normally to close. Something in the mechanism is arranged to kick
them out of the light path when the film is in motion.

I don't know the mechanism of the T10, so can't say what to look for.
But you are better off if the shutter closes when it is supposed to be
open rather than the reverse.

Problem solved: in fact the bulb hadn't been inserted correctly, so
the filament wasn't at the focal point of the reflector.

Thanks for your help.
