Doom sucked big time. Am glad I downloaded it & didn't pay a penny. The
dvd was promptly thrown in the garbage.

Still, "Doom" looked like Lawrence of Arabia next to "UltraViolet"

At least Doom was funny (in the 1st person shooter PC game bit).

My favourite non - alien series space movie still is "Quaremass & the
Pit" and that was made in the 1960's

I loved the TV series Quatermass and The Pit which I bought on DVD
recently as well as the film, the film gave me the worse nightmares in
my life as a teenager which still haunt me today as a terrifying
experience, and I'm in love now with the woman Christine Finn who
played Barbara Judd in the 1950s TV series, she has cheekbones from a
very special place in the cosmos. But the Quatermass writer Nigel
Kneale served as a great inspiration to Dan O'Bannon when he wrote
Alien, and indeed Quatermass And The Pit was an important part of the
inspiration.

I wonder also if this Quatermass and the Pit story served Scott with
inspiration for thinking about his Alien sequel forever to be

okay!

I have been reading a great book on Nigel Kneale's writing career and
enjoying it tremendously for my exploration of the creative language of
Alien, I was so intuitively sure that Quatermass And The Pit served as
some kind of inspiration for Alien and it turned out to correct as far
as O'Bannon was concerned when he was interviewed for the book. For it
me was a revelation to find out about the mind of the writer. In some
ways, I almost find an urge to compare something of the impact of his
earlier work on my mind to that of the painter Francis Bacon, and also
the fussiness of some of his criticisms about thing seemed to send
echoes of something that I had read in Francis Bacon interviews.

I'm going to have to start writing to sci-fi magazines tomorrow to
print photos of Christine Finn from the 50s. It's a pity that she never
did any sexy publicity stills for today's scifi mags to stick on the
magazine covers

Funnily enough, I've just signed to write a nonfiction book about Quatermass
next...
