OK, it's too damn quiet in here, so I'll try to get an on-topic
thread started even if it might be little, well, corny. I'm from
Iowa. I *like* corn. :-)
Just a bit of background: I've had hundreds of dreams
involving our favorite movie monster(s) in various ways.
The first couple of weeks after seeing Alien in 1979, I
had *constant* nightmares. I hardly slept because I
couldn't close my eyes without seeing a dark, menacing
alien. I was terrified. Eventually, it was only some nights,
and then maybe every week or two. I don't remember any
specifics from those early dreams -- it's just all a blur of
fear.
Somewhere along the line, as my fear turned into respect
and admoration for a film which affected my life so deeply,
I began to *enjoy* having the nightmares. They would still
scare me, but when I awoke I'd think, "Damn, that was cool."
I started remember more details. Years go by, and the fear
slips away. In fact, it's very difficult to scare me, period.
Startle? Sure. Scare? No.
So . . . by the mid 80s, my Alien inspired dreams were
no longer nightmares but events which I looked forward to.
Unfortunately, I don't have them much anymore. Maybe,
once or twice a year if lucky. But I remember a lot of them.
Most are too disjointed to make sense in a written form
like a newsgroup post. Some are just "impressions".
Others are just tidbits that were thrown into totally
unrelated circumstances. You know what dreams are
like.
Getting to the point (it's about time!) here's the best
Alien dream I can remember and (somewhat) put
into words. This one was definately Aliens inspired,
because . . .
I was a soldier. Or at least training to be one, with maybe
half-a-dozen other "recruits". We were outside on a
hilltop, with bright sunshine, and I destinctly remember
the wind blowing around my hair. I felt good -- strong.
My group was standing outside the door to a building
that was built into the hillside, and somebody -- just a
voice, no physical presence -- was explaining our
"mission". We were going to "sweep" the building
for aliens, starting at the top and working our way
down through several floors. There were only two
entrances/exits in the building: the one we were
waiting outside of, and another at the bottom. No
windows, anywhere. The whole building was concrete.
Once we went in, this door would be locked down.
One exit, and who knew how many aliens, but we
also had to find them all. If we missed any, the door
below wouldn't open. Kill 'em all or die.
(I think I was playing too video games at the time!)
So all of that was communicated in just a fleeting
moment. No big speeches or anything. The dream
was pure action. We were up there on that windy
hilltop one moment, and all of sudden we are rushing
through that door on a life-or-death mission. From
daylight into night. Almost complete darkness, except
for red lights here and there, and our flashlights. Flying
down hallways, throwing open doors, and blasting
anything that moved that wasn't "us". It was a maze,
and all I was doing was running down the next hallway
that seemed "right" to me and busting through any
unopened doors I saw. I'd clear that room of anything
that I needed to, and then go back out, running past
any fellow soldiers, to the next unopened door.
It was exhilerating at first, like a video game. No fear.
I was just a killing machine, and I saw every target
clearly no matter how deep the shadows were. If the
door opened into a bedroom, and there was something
trying to hide underneath the bed, I just somehow knew
it was there and I'd fire some rounds and move on. But
as we moved down a couple of floors, the atmosphere
of the place seemed to change. Like the air was thicker
and it was more difficult to move. Everything slowed
down, and I started hesitating at the doors, afraid of
what might be behind it. If the aliens had been trying
to hide before, they weren't anymore. I'd open a door
and a shadow would leap and I'd have to jump back
and fire wildly, *hoping* I took it down before it could
rip me apart.
As the tension mounted, I teamed up with a girl so that
we could cover each other. I wanted to just tell her that
we should just run and try to escape, but I knew there
was nowhere to escape to. We heard screaming all
around us, and then after awhile it was too quiet and
we pretty much figured we were the only two left by
the time we were going through the last floor. We saw
the exit, and again wanted to run, but there were more
doors to open. We had check them all.
And that was the worse part of the dream. It seemed
to last forever. She would open a door and I would
dart in to find . . . nothing. I opened the next one and
then waited to hear her fire as she crept in, but again
there was nothing. There was a wooden door, that
look old and weak, so we kicked it at the same time,
busting in to find nothing at all. I don't how many rooms
went by, but each one was empty and that just made
things worse because we *knew* there were aliens
still around. We just couldn't find them.
And we never did. The "sense" of them all around us
was driving us mad, but we couldn't see any of them.
We reached the exit, and I looked at the girl and she
shrugged and said, "If it doesn't open, it doesn't open."
She reached over, and the door opened and bright
sunshine hit us full blast along with the wind. The air
smelled so fesh, so nice. We walked out and started
towards a man standing several yards away. We had
made it through the gauntlet.
But the man changed into an alien and started laughing.
Not really, but it was the impression that you got, that
it was it very amused. It swung its head towards me
and as it attacked the full realization that I had was
that the aliens had set the whole thing up to observe
how we would attack them in that situation. Everything
we had killed in the building had been humans that
appeared to be aliens, but weren't. I felt alien teeth
ripping out a chunk of my flesh, and woke up.
One of the best dreams I've ever had.
So how about anyone else? Did the movies give
you nightmares? Maybe there's a memorable one
you wouldn't mind sharing?
Or just any general comments? You can make fun
of me if you like -- at least it would be something
to read! :-)
Have a great day!

There is supposed to be a way - "directed dreaming" - of training yourself
to dream about what you want to dream about so that you can decide what
happens next.
In my case this would mostly involve Britney. >> Stay informed about: Alien Dreams |

Not a single one? Bummer.
I figured you must have had nightmares because
you had a hell of a first viewing of Alien. I remember
the story of you sneaking in to see it, and being
scared not only because of the film, but of being
caught! And no nightmares?
Dang. Maybe I'm luckier than I ever realized.
Have a great day!

My favorite Trek movie. Wrath is close, but I still love
the humor of Voyage Home more.
I *thought* about that quote after I wrote that . . .
AND I live about 10 miles from Riverside. In fact, a
good friend of mine was in that hoax, Invasion Iowa,
that Shatner devised. I might have been, too, but I
had to work the day they went down there to see
what all the commotion was about. Don't let anyone
tell you different -- Shatner got all us hicks REAL
good! :-)
Finally, I *wish* I worked in outer space. That would
be beyond cool!
Have a great day!

Yeah, I can do that (Lucid Dreaming its called).
But 'generally' speaking the train of thought you are in at the time is
directed by the dream you are starting to have (If you get me?) Its
difficult to strat dreaming of, say, Britney and then think.... "Hey, you
know what THIS dream needs!? Huge biomechanical death machines!" or say..

Very true.
In fact, that's probably one of the reason I had trouble
staying in dreams when I first starting *trying* to
lucid dream. The more you try to change, the more
likely you are to wake up. You have to learn to "go
with the flow" and just change a few things.
The best lucid dreams I've had, I never *tried* to
change anything. I was simply more aware and
attempting to enjoy as much as possible all the
weird stuff going on! To really *observe*. Good
stuff. Wish I still had the "knack" for it.

It was odd...
I was lying on my body in my parents house (this was 1979. Just after the
film was released!)
I had the *Alien Poster Magazine* opened and pinned above my bed! (Yes.. on
the ceiling right above me!) Showing the alien in the shuttle bay (Or in the
Narcissus, I'm not sure which )
Anyway...
Lying on the bed and had music on, either Oldfield or Jarre. Next thing I
knew I was > < close to the poster.
I mean it was INCHES away from my face.
Now, I was TOTALLY aware of this. But I didn;t panic. In fact what I was
thinking was.. "Do not THINK about what is happening. Just be aware of it.
Let it happen. Dont think about it or it will stop.
So I did. Eyes fixed on the poster. And then I knew I was going to blink..
and I did.. and I was back on me bed!
Do I think it really *was an O-O-B experience... Naaahhh...
BUT I also wouldn't say I was actually asleep.
It is the mostly likely explanation, but I also think that it could have
been some strange kind of macroscopic vision as well.... but also less
likely!!!

Yup.
Well, I asked the two main "offenders" for some straight
answers. I tried to as nice as possible. I guess it will
depend upon their answers whether or not I really go
back.
What a damn shame.
Oh, and, ummmm . . . Alien! Great flick. Go buy it!
There. On-topic.
