Hi all and happy new year...!

Can someone confirm if FinalCut 5.0 (HD Pro) can read the timecode
metadata directly from our BWAV files? (from a Deva in this case)
And the rest of the metadata?
Is there any preference to check or special procedure to make it work
in 5.0?

I'm not shure wich version of FC is already reading it and I'd like to
save the editor the QT conversion via Sebsky Tools in order to synch
the files.

Thanks in advance,

Fernando

The Short Answer: Yes

Let your editor know the most current version of FCP is 5.1.2

More info is here:
http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs.html?finalcutpro

and here:

Thanks a lot.

But, does 5.0 specifically can or can not?

The 5.1.2 update is free from Apple. Just have your editor run the
Software Update. Prior versions do not support the metadata.

AFAIK, FCP 5.0 does NOT read TC from BWAVs. You need a newer version.

Frank.

Yes I'm much more in the know now ... having read up and have done some
testing with multitracks polys and monofonics. Have to be carefull with
frame rates and FCP ... seems FCP needs to have some more work on that
side .. though Protools works like a charm .. just thought to bring in
with timecode into NLE , it would make it a a little easier on the post
sound side of things. cheers Don

Frank,
Have you tried importing files using an ALE file for the Metadata and using
Cinema Tools to batch import or connect to the source BWF files?
I am told this can work but I am interested to see if anyone has tried it.
It seems that FCP has big problems getting the Time Stamp correct when
importing BWF files. I would like to know if this end-run technique of
creating an ALE file in BWF-Widget Pro and turning it in with the sound
files on the disk would be a good work around for importing of BWF files
with the correct time stamps into FCP 5.1.x? If so, what metadata from the
ALE is brought into the FCP project and connected with the audio tracks.
Track names, Notes, User bits? Roll numbers? I would like to hear from
anyone who has tried this method.
