posting a question for a friend:
What I need to know is how to get audio from 8
tracks of Final Cut Pro (or Pro Tools, Soundtrack Pro etc etc), via
Firewire or USB into 8 tracks of DA88, or DA98, which takes digital
signals in via a 25 pin serial connector on what they refer to as a
TDIF-1 standard. I don't even know if FCPs audio data is directly
compatible with TDIF-1. Deck control would be via RS422 over a USB
Keyspan connector.

If the system you are using can make AES outputs, you can run them thru
a Tascam IF88AE box which is a bidirectional AES-TDIF convertor.
Another path is to get your tracks to ADAT Lightpipe format and then
use the Tascam IF-TAD box to convert the Lightpipe to TDIF. If you can
get to AES, you can probably rent the box you need from a place like
Audio Rents in LA. The other alternative is to go out of your system
analog and back into the DA88 as analog.
