I have a VST62 in near mint condition. I want to trade for a pair of
CMC 5's or 6's in like condition.

It is a 2 channel body to power 2 capsules via an active cable:

It's stereo in one body, vs separate bodies, therefore more portable
and streamlined.

Hi,

I want to have an opinion for this particular preamplifier. Why you want
to have two pres instead of one?
Is there some disadvantage for you to use in location? Its weight? Sound
quality?

Thnaks,

Yeah, that's what I can read from their catalogue.
But what I want to ask is, so why he wants to switch to two separate
bodies, and if he can notice some negative points from his experience.

Thanks,
m

Two amplifiers are much more versitile, at the least.

For about five years I use two CMC6 with KC5 active cable for a MS rig.
It's very light in the basket like using CCM series mic,
but it is not easy having two hard cable on the boom pole.
That's why I was wondering if I switch to VST62 + KCY.
Other option will be using KCY cable with Sonosax SX-M2 LS2 (you can
directly connect to lemo active cable)

Hello Masaki,
The VST62 is a perfect solution for using a KCY cable for boom
operation.
The sound quality will be the same as using 2 CMC bodies and the KCY
cable is very slim.
As far as the weight goes, the VST is 230 grams:
http://www.posthorn.com/S_vst62.html
while 2 CMC bodies are about 130-136 grams:
http://www.posthorn.com/S_cmc.html
So, it is a little heavier, but you also get rid of 1 cable.

The reason I want to switch to CMC bodies is so I can use cut filters
or run long runs of XLR cables if I need to.
Running CMC bodies makes the system more versatile for my purposes.
But, running the VST system might be better for what you do.......

Keep in mind that you can run a KCY cable with 2 CMC bodies by adding
the AKI/2C cable for just $736! (and prices are going up next week)

Thanks for your reply,

Until now, I'm very happy with two CMCs. Generally using one for boom,
other you can use it for plant mic, for interviewer's, or a spare (yes,
it helped
me when having problem). When to record ST atmos, I connect two.
But it's a bit time consuming and also very scary to screw up and down
in the field.
That's why I'm thinking separate mono mic set, and stereo one.

Well, need to save more bucks...

Yeah, that was a reason why I started with two KC5
