Does anyone have a guess on how Horror films compare in rentals as to other
categories?
Obviously Blockbuster carries what they want you to see, however several; of
the independent retailers in my area carry a broader range of films in this
genre with a more extensive catalog, and they seem to do well in this
category. Despite this I'm sure Blockbuster or one of the other chain
stores will drive them out of business eventually, and those who intend to
rent a movie will be at their mercy.

Hi.
I have no idea how the bigger rental chains do but I ran a store for awhile
and have a couple friends who have video stores.
Horror and action always seemed to be the top renters where i worked. I
would go out of my way to bring in stuff that was different. (note: I worked
in the store back in the early 90's) Off beat horror always got a lot of
rental, and the older stuff...Zoltan hound of hell, Ghost House, Intruder,
and the like seemed to always be out.

My friends that own video stores told me that to this day the Full Moon line
Subspecies, Trancers, Puppet Master series' are constantly out and always in
demand.
Even long after there is no longer a Full Moon they are still constantly
getting asked about them.
As for Horror in general, it does very well, though you'd be surprised at
the type that goes out a lot. Leatherface is a constant renter, as was Blood
Feast, of course someone seems to be always having a Friday or Halloween
marathon at there house.

Myself I like to rent the more edgy and risky independent horror. Whenever
my video stores don't carry it I buy it on DVD.

Hope that helps a little. I would also like to know some numbers on thsi.
