And I liked it. The film was discussed here a few months ago, so I
won't go into a synopsis. I'll just say it worked for me -- I thought
it was hilarious to hear Raymond Chandler dialogue coming out of the
mouths of (standard movie 20-something) high school students. All the
noir cliches were there, from the femme fatale to the evil crime boss to
the hard-boiled gumshoe to the stalwart sidekick to the muscle-bound
thug in love with the beautiful dame (whose name, sadly, wasn't Velma).
The movie made me laugh because it was played so straight: film noir in
a modern high school. Read this:

"I don't want you to come kicking in my homeroom door because of
something I didn't do."

When spoken by a Philip Marlowe-type character, that's a very funny line.

I saw this movie a few months back. After I came to the realization of
what they were doing with the dialogue and the character types, and that
it wasn't going to be some eerie murder mystery, I came to see the
dialogue as a gimmick. Not only that, it was hard to follow without
subtitles. I made it to the end, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I
thought I would.

Brick - What type of lingo or slang were they using in that movie? It sounded so fake and tacky. Over- rehearsed or something.

Blockbuster Online Drop Off Brick And Mortar - Earlier this year I believe BB touted that they were working on OnLine Rentals but you were then able to drop off and return at your local B&M store. Anyone know if they have abandoned this business plan or are they any closer to implementing this..

Finally saw Beerfest: not bad - I never saw Super Troopers, but caught Club Dread, and thought it had some very funny parts (the real life pacman course for example). I'd been meaning to give Beerfest a try despite the generally poor reviews and boxoffice. I finally got around to it....

Finally Saw The Queen - Holy Cow, did Mirren *and* Alex Jennings (virtually unrecognizable; deserves a Supporting Actor nod) put on a show. The film is almost (almost) a homage to Blair. One of Elizabeth's last lines undercuts him, his place in history, and all the sympathy..

FInally saw TERABITHIA - and I absolutely loved the movie. Found myself totally lost in the movie and in the tender, beautiful relationship of the two principals. Many elements of the story hit very close to home and so it became a bit difficult to watch at times, but, oh, so....
