If you have an hour or so to kill, then you may as well spend it in the
company of Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson, as Mr & Mrs Finnegan, in
process of getting divorced - then treasure hunting.
An amiable enough movie, with a predictable ending, after many trials and
tribulations.
Treasure hunts are usually a worst-kept secret, whether it be in
"Treasurer Island", or here, where the sunken ship's treasure location is a
puzzle, solved along the way, which adds some interest to this film.
Another bonus is the character of rich man's spoilt daughter, Gemma
Honeycutt (Alexis Dziena), a little charmer, who is neither as dumb nor as
spoilt as she imagines herself to be.
There are the usual collection of Bad Guys, who add a comic touch in some
ways, and menace in others - as you never quite know when they're gonna pop
up and spoil everything.
Incidentally, fool's gold was originally iron pyrites, a mineral with a
golden gleam, but certainly not gold.
Yet even a perpetual loser, such as Ben Finnegan, can get it right, in
the end.
