The April 2005 issue of Film & Video had an article on disk based audio
recorders and had a photo of a Fostex DV824 machine but no description.
Does anyone know what this machine is?

An 8-track DVDRAM recorder with optional timecode/chase card, firewire
and HDD. A successor to the DV40 but perhaps with slightly watered down
functionality. Interestingly it has a 4-pin XLR dc input - location
recorder possibilities??

Take a look at

www.fostexdvd.net

and you'll probably find out what you need to know.

12v yes, location use - interesting - it is clearly built for rack
mount use - so that might dictate how you use it. I can't remember if
it has mic IP's.

Good to see you're still there Paul - how is the fall? (or autumn as we
put it!).

Regards,

Simon B

Danny Michael was using one out on location on his cart (as the main
recorder) last month whilst doing Rent. (Thanks for letting me hang out
Danny). Going through a Cooper so don't know about the mic IP's, but
reckon a quick look at the fostex site would tell you. I was interested
myself about the powering - afaik there is no 'indoors/studio' version,
the DC in is it: there'll be an adapter.

No mic pres, line only. Touted as the "21st Century DA88". They may
be right.
