Well, "Pirates 2" set all sorts of box office records last year, but on
the flip side, un obscure indie movie called "Zyzzyx Road" set a record
of a different sort in 2006, having the dubious distinction of the
lowest box office in recorded Hollywood history, with exactly $30 (!!!)
total. Pretty darn funny.
I guess we shouldn't expect "Zyzzyx Road 2" anytime soon. :)

No Box Office Mojo for ZYZZYX

The thriller starring Katherine Heigl, Tom Sizemore and Leo Grillo has
the lowest box office cume in the history of Hollywood record keeping.

There's a special spot for the Independent thriller Zyzzyx Road when
all is said and done about the 2006 box office records. That spot is
dead last. Daily Variety reports that in the final box office figures
for the year, the thriller, which stars Tom Sizemore, Katherine Heigl
and Leo Grillo, earned precisely $30 at the box office. No, not thirty
million. Not thirty thousand. But just thirty, as in thirty bucks.
The movie opened in precisely one city, Dallas, back in February of
last year. It earned $20 in its opening weekend, and somehow managed to
get another ten dollars the following week. I guess even here, word of
mouth is a factor in movie marketing.
The film has now vanished from sight, and the Internet Movie Data Base
has no mention of any kind of DVD release or cable run for the film.
Coincidentally, the film had sat on the shelf for a year before someone
rashly decided to try it at the box office, and now it seems to be on
the shelf again, permanently. That, as they say, is show biz.
