Archived from groups: rec>arts>movies>current-films (more info?)

Many movie watchers have long despised critics' reviews so much that their
reviews are treated inversely, so that well-reviewed-movies are avoided
while bad-reviewed-movies are sought out.

However there are movies that the studios and TPTB keep from critics, like
this week's CRY WOLF, and those tend to prove to be really bad even to those
who hate critics' reviews.

Are there any movies held back from critics that turned out to be good?

I seem to be alone in liking The Astronaut's Wife, if only for Johnny
Depp's lead performance.

Damn straight. Though it's not always a kneejerk response. Nevertheless,
the trend is there, and more often than not, it is the dominant pattern:
they like it, I skip it; they hate it, I watch it ..
