I was disappointed in the commentary. Marty doesn't keep his comments
tied to the visual, and once he starts a topic, he drones on into the
next scene and the next. In other places he says nothing for up to 10
minutes and just watches. He talks very little about the actors. In
one of the most notable scenes of the movie, he had no comments at
all, because he was still talking about the Irish folk music from a
scene 15 minutes back. Love the movie, love Marty, but he should have
scripted his own commentary before he recorded it to disc.
Daniel Day-Lewis blew me away. Performance of a lifetime and Bill the
Butcher goes down as one of the all-time notable and frightening
characters of the screen.
