This movie is described in reviews as being atheist, so being an atheist I
went along to seek confirmation.
However, "God" is never mentioned, and although an authoritarian
organisation called the Magisterium figures prominently, opposition to that
would involve anti-clericalism, something not confined to atheists.
The whole film is a curious mish-mash of ideas, apparently based on a
trilogy of books, and set in a parallel universe, where each person is
accompanied by their "daemon", or soul, external to their body.
It is an interesting-enough movie, though the theme of witches, magic,
goodies-versus-baddies, is a rehash, and yet another fantasy about the human
condition.
There seems some confusion between Free Will and Free Thought, though
both are anathema to the totalitarians, whose control, of course, is for
your own good - lest you be confused by Dust.
Presumably, good Catholics will boycott it, just in case.
