I hate to be this nitpicky, but there has never been a movie called
_Charlie and the Chocolate Factory_. The movie _Willy Wonka and the
Chocolate Factory_ was an adaptation of Roald Dahl's book called
_Charlie and the Chocolate Factory_. And, if even people posting in
this newsgroup are holding the movie _Willy Wonka and the Chocolate
Factory_ as "the original version", I dread how this is going to go
over with the general public.

That idea strikes me as being completely based on Gene Wilder's
performance, which I believe should be forgotten, and make way for a
new interpretation of the character ... which I have faith that Burton
would do.
When I read the book, I personally saw Wonka as an askew old man, not
the handsome gentleman Wilder played him as.
It occurred to me today how perfect Christopher Lloyd would be for the
role. I have no idea how he and Burton would work together, though.
As Tim is picky about only working with just the right people, then
I'd think that if Lloyd were to suit him, he would have used him by
now.

About as amazing as an episode of _The Banana Splits and Friends
Show_.
In the '70's movie, everything before entering the chocolate factory
is done alright. After that, the aesthetic was all wrong.

_Great Glass Elevator_ is absolutely Burton material (the visit to
Hell!), and I'd love to see him take it on.
