Pfft! 'Twas never the story line of Alien 3. Dark Horse got the rights
to both characters and released a "graphic novel" (if you will) called,
funnily enough, Aliens vs Predator. It went rather well, other comics
followed, and Peter Briggs (sp?) wrote a script rather loosely based on
the comics, but without permission. Someone at Fox liked the idea, and
the whole project promptly stalled.
While I personally like the *idea* of the movie, what happened next is
my biggest concern. Paul WS Anderson stepped in to both write and
direct (along with a chap whose name eludes me, who is credited with
co-writing Armageddon. Yay!). The end result is that this movie will
be a cash cow. Two popular franchises reprising their comic-book roles
will be thrown together in a movie designed to make a few bucks, then
slide from view. There'll be none of the style that we found in the
previous Alien movies, and Mr. Anderson (snigger) simply isn't that good
a director. I'd say he dabbles in competent mediocrity.
[shrugs]
Of course, I'd LOVE to be proven wrong.
