I've always avoided rec/pause with my HHB to keep head wear down; I imagine that
the heads are spinning and tape path engaged this way. I've heard of guys
using rec/pause forever and claiming not to have a problem. I've also never had
either of my HHB recorders in the shop for repairs. Talk to Eric about remotes,
too.

Are you sure you don't mean ADC, not DAC? I have an Apogee AD500 and an AD1000
[with mic pres and 12V operation] and have used them on and off with the HHB and
generally found myself very happy with the results. I think the HHB A/D
converters are pretty good, though.
