I had to sit through the video for reasons beyond my control, and...any
suspicions about why teens like HSM is correct:
Exactly the same as any other Disney Channel programming (think "'Saved
By the Bell' in E flat") and an entire "lost generation" born since 1982
has literally never seen a movie musical in their lives. -_-
(So, for those of you from that generation, don't tell me you weren't
thinking the same "Best musical ever"'s about the Buffy episode...
Or can you still watch "Moulin Rouge" today without a
what-was-I-thinking cringe?)
On one of our Disney boards, we older folk who can find the Classics
section of the Blockbusters used to tweak HSM tweenies with "Oh, hey,
there's this thing called 'Grease' I saw the other day...And these
things called 'Fame' and 'West Side Story', they looked like they were
worth checking out!"
And every one would get completely believing responses of "Oh, Grease,
we saw that last week, that was so kewl!"
(Oh, lordy.) -_-

For above mentioned reasons, we can be glad the casting producers made
the HSM connection to "sucker" that badly-needed generation in by their
one cheap leash--
Change won't happen overnight, it must be a slow evolution of awareness,
but we have to take it step by step.
