Not bad for a first show. Better than most SNL's of the last
25 years. Very promising, and it demonstrates the wealth
of more material SNL would have had if it cared about balance.
Not that HHNH is more balanced than SNL. It isn't. It
leans the other way, which fills a gap that has been
neglected ever since That Was the Week That Was (TW3).

You may be right. Experiments often fail. But one thing is
clear, you want it to fail before it even makes some adjustments
and has a chance to succeed.

There were plenty of amusing gags, by the way. You
lefties are so afraid of the right doing to the left the things
that the left does to the right incessently. You claim to love
diversity, but the only kind of diversity that really matters,
diversity of political viewpoints, you can't stomach for a moment.

Actually I am, in principle. Flag burning is one of the most
basic, obvious forms of political expression, and should not
be banned, except with the obvious restriction that one
may not destroy the property of others.

Normally I wouldn't dream of burning an American
flag, but once I'm told that I may not do so, I hope
I'll have the courage to find one, buy one, or make one,
and burn it in public.

Let me guess. You think Carrot Top and Gallagher are cutting edge humor.

Really, Calvin. If CNN decided to run a comedy show that spent half
hour bashing the right you'd be having fits. Fox is a news channel.
Okay, it's a propaganda party hack wing of the administration, but for
the sake of the argument, let's call it a news channel, and news
channels have no business doing comedy shows. The Daily Show And
Colbert aren't on CNN. They're on a comedy channel.

I accept your point, except for the part that I bleeped out,
but it never would have occurred to me to object to a
news channel having a politically oriented comedy show.
Saturday Night Live has become just as tiresome in its
relentless right-bashing on NBC as it would be on MSNBC.
However, others might take your objection seriously, and I
will take them seriously if they are politically neutral (which
disqualifies most of the big names in this forum).

Chris Matthews blasts the right with hate every day on MSNBC.
I don't see that blasting the right with humor on MSNBC or CNN
should be thought to be any more objectionable.

I think this thing'll be gone within months. Balance or no balance,
the problem with what I saw of it last night wasn't the political
agenda, it was that there wasn't a laugh to be found, unless just the
mere concept of anyone poking fun at the left is hilarious to you. Oh
hey, Rush Limbaugh's the President! And he starts his state of the
union address just like he starts his radio show! Ha ha!

Still, it's just one show, so it's hard to make a judgment
overall...but unless the producers/writers realize what makes stuff
like The Daily Show work is the writing and not just shots at "the
right," I don't see this going anywhere.

I'm dodging your question because I'm tired of speaking
for the right, defending conservatism, fighting right and
left battles, being political on usenet. If you catch me
being political again, remind me that I dodged your
question.

Call it Michael Moore Syndrome--
When the Right feels "embattled", they don't pick on the Message, they
pick on the Messeng-ER, and consider *him* sole incarnation of evil on
this earth:

"It's all that Jon Stewart's fault!...Well, we'll show him!--TWO can
play this <quote-fingers> 'Daily Show' game!"

Why did you post this here, when this is a TV show, not a movie? B-(

I disagree with your basic premise here. What this does is show some
self awareness on Fox's part. They seem to know they're a joke already,
so why not try an actual comedy show?

Your logic escapes me, Calvin. If Matthews 'bashes the right', whom
does Darrell Hammond bash when he's lampooning Matthews?
