I just noticed a thread that happened over Xmas about
alt.binaries.multimedia.the-matrix - any news? Any help required?

Oh yeah! I'm still on it - sort-of: I've been a bit busy
lately... <rant>In fact, the only time I'm not busy is when I
get so pissed off with working so much I have to take a few
evenings off to do other stuff like check this group out! </rant>
;-)

I should have cross-posted the original thread from alt.config to
here from the start actually - I'll try that now with my next
post, see "Re: [PROPOSAL]: alt.binaries.multimedia.the-matrix"
which is my latest reply.

Anyway, I think there's only yourself in this group who wants to
post stuff regularly, which is fine, however there was a post on
alt.config asking how busy the group would be, i.e. we could end
up forming a dead group. This got me thinking: if its too
quite, it may just end up a spam trap, which might deter new
users, or piss the rest of us off. The charter would help deter
that, or at least give us some ammunition to get spammers cut
off, but it wouldn't stop it.

PouchCotato's Weekly Stats are very useful and from them I'd say
_this_ group isn't too quiet, but does anyone know what
determines busy and quiet binary group! And don't say the
"number of new posts" hehehehe..... ;o)

I suppose we could just create it anyway just to see..... what
does everyone else reckon?

I agree, i'am not a regular poster, but i've been here sinse the beginning.
And if there will be such a group, i will definitly be a part of it.
Because the matrix still holds my mind in many ways, and i will be keeping
track of anything that follows.

We need to ensure maximum propagation to all the usenet servers
on the internet. Although we can do it anyway, I'm just a little
concerned that if I do this it may retard this process.

Cool. Can anyone give a rough idea about how many binary posts
they intend to post? It seems to have died in here a little
recently!

This is true. I bet if we'd tried to create it 3 months ago
we'd'v had 100's of interested users!

FWIW, I have a couple of CD-ROMs of various sound files, pictures,
Acrobat files, screensavers, fonts etc that I'd be regularly posting if
anyone wanted them.

Heh. Hindsight is a wonderful thing... :)

.... It's likely a lot of those people, or new ones, will return/arrive
when the Revolutions DVD, or the box set, appears. Ditto the game, of
course.

I can post bootleg expanded soundtracks every few weeks to keep it busy. And
I've got lots of wallpapers, stories, etc. And if I ever convert the FAQ to
HTML or something, I could post that too. And then there's funny Matrix
spoofs that I could post (Shockwave, AVI, MPEG, etc...).

If the group is ever created, let me know. I've got dozens of things to post
.... in rotation, even.

I have bootleg soundtracks (MP3), several parodies and spoofs (various video
formats), dozens of images (um, images!), and lots of other little things.
So... I could post stuff. I could circulate it and post every few weeks if
necessary until everyone had it. So... create the group already? :-)

It was suggested in alt.config that we could post to other binary
groups to give us an idea of numbers (i.e. quiet groups are less
likely to be taken on by ISPs). Personally, I'd find this to be
a pain in the ass as it'd mean looking through loads of
irrelevant stuff to hunt down matrix-related material. Is the
Matrix discussed much in other sci-fi/fantasy groups? I looked
in this one because it was quite clear what it was about - I
wasn't arsed about the others! ;)

What does everyone else think?

Good idea in theory, but the there are loads of web-based matrix
forums around already. I thought the idea of the binary group
was to avoid that - i.e. keep stuff that's discussed on usenet...
ummm... on usenet! Also, usenet allows off-line reading.

I agree - the off-line reading bit is the biggest attraction,
particularly for those of us still paying by-the-minute...
