Hi All -
Whoosh - I was somewhat taken aback by the response to the
long-awaited final signing of a Harold Lloyd DVD deal by the Harold
Lloyd Trust. I understand - chiefly because I have been a very vocal
messenger for over a decade - how long we all have been waiting for
such a deal to be finalized. And, I fully understand your frustration,
your anticipation, and your lack of patience. As was so kindly noted,
I am only the messenger - not the source - yet as such, I only made
such a bold proclamation knowing full well how long everyone has been
waiting, how exciting this news would be, and that ink had been used
to finalize the project.
I only ask that people not forget the ultimate goal: to get Harold
Lloyd into the homes (and not only via TCM). These are films that -
for those who haven't yet seen him - will surprise, amaze, and still
be a source of humor. As I so well know, this is a man whose career,
whose legend, and whose enduring contributions to film comedy have
been lost and forgotten for too long across the board, and it has to
stop. This is a man whose films - which I got a tinted glimpse at, for
the first time, in 1979 via the Time/Life series - are amazingly
un-dated in this day and age, and whose normalcy will make new
generations stand up and take notice of silent film in general. Once
people see Lloyd, they want to see more - and that's always been my
ultimate goal - not to make any money off him, but to simply spread
him around.
That was why, when Suzanne Lloyd asked me to announce the signing of
the New Line and Sony deals, and to pause on talking about the
still-to-be-announced third deal, I jumped on it. Not to "do what I
was told," but to simply let Harold's fans know that the ink is dry.
And, I would only do this knowing that contracts had been signed -
particularly since, in the past, I have spoken too soon, and have
disappointed his fans, with announcements prior to deal completion
(when negotiations that were "this close" fell through). That is my
fault, and for that I apologize.
However, this time, there is a contract, it has been signed, and
regardless of the fact that I do not yet know WHEN it will happen, I
know it will. I'm going to be of any help I can to see that it is
swift, sure, and as perfect as it can be.
This thread, and the evident emotion in it, shows me one thing: Harold
Lloyd has fans. Fans who care. And, as probably his biggest proponent
and his staunchest supporter in this generation, I applaud that.
Thanks for your time,
Annette Lloyd >> Stay informed about: Harold Lloyd DVD Announcement |

Thank you too Annette. You have been working very hard over several years
to get this done and it is appreciated. My first reaction was to be
skeptical too, but I think that knowing what happened before you would only
come out with this information if it was a done deal. I look forward to
getting them when they do come out.

No. New Line was interested, pure and simple.
