I am getting poor reception with my Sennheiser Evo 500 buttplug. As
the speaker is moving the transmitter around the reception is dropping
out. Would a helical antenna on the RX improve the reception on the
polarized signal coming off the TX (theoretically of course)?

Thanks,

William

Yes. But simply raising the receive antenna you have might be enough.

William,

Are you using a PLUG ON transmitter, or a beltpack one?
If you're using a PLUG ON brick transmitter, take care: do not use any
handmic with plastic housing. The only good solution is to use mics
where the house is made of some kind of metal, and the pin 1 of the XLR
plug is also connected to the metal housing.
The anntenna of the Senn Xmitter is connected to the pin 1 on the mic
input XLR jack. So if you wanna use any mic w/plastic housing, the
only thing you have to do is to connect an approx 20 cm long wire into
pin1 of the input connector of the plug on transmitter before attaching
the mic to the transmitter, and fix the wire beside the mic handle with
some tape. That's all.
I hope i couldhelp a little bit.

On reading the post before yours Wolf, I went to the Sennheisher site. What
Sennheiser is calling a helical antenna is just a wound RUBBER DUCKIE, and it
may be the original poster was asking about this sort of antenna. But as you
have put, helically-POLARIZED antennas are da bomb.

Thanks for the correction. I guess I would not expect superior
reception from this "helical" antenna then. It seems I could use the
connector from whip antenna to wire up my own DIY helical. How would I
determine the the proper winding and circumference for 740-776 MHz
range?

I'd look in the ARRL Antenna Book.
