Hey all - I am looking for some help making a science project related
to The Matrix. Basically, the project is a hypothetical situation
about the threat of a volcanic explosion on a fictional island, Mont
Isle. The "mayor" of the city where the volcano is wants seven
questions answered We then have to make a movie explaining our
answers. The teacher said that the best movies follow the theme of
another movie, so I chose The Matrix as my theme. Basically the gist
of our plot (and we only have 3 people so we have to take a lot of
liberties) is that the mayor (who is analogous to Morpheus) recruits
Neo to find the answers. He then has an showdown with Agent Smith in a
game of NFL Blitz (a video game, I know it is kind of lame but it is
the best we can do), with Smith giving him the answers after he wins.
I would like help with the plot, which I think is pretty good but could
use some peer review. Some areas where I think it could use a lot of
work are the opening, and the prior connection between the mayor and
Neo (i.e., how Neo knew of Morpheus before meeting him - the way we
have it right now is kind of lame in my opinion). I also put the music
we're going to put in the background. Also, this thing has to be 20
minutes with 7 of those on the presentation at the end (it is about
that right now). Here it is:
The Matrix - Mont Isle
Cast:
Jeremy: Neo
Varun: Agent Smith
Zach: Mayor Jose Cruz (Morpheus)
Jeremy: FedEx Man
Plot:
Scene 1: (Main Title / Trinity Infinity; Dissolved Girl)
Digital Rain introduction. Opening credits play. Neo awakes, face
down next the keyboard, wearing headphones. Old magazines and papers
clutter his desk. The computer screen is set to the Helicopter game.
Neo looks at a clock and sees it is 7 AM, and gets ready for work.
Scene 2: (M: Unable to Speak; The Power Plant)
Neo is at work, reading an article on the computer about a celebration
to be held on a place called Mont Isle. A picture of mayor Cruz
accompanies the article. FedEx Man enters with an express delivery for
Thomas Anderson. Neo says that is him and signs. He opens the package
and finds a cell phone, which immediately rings. "Hello?", he says.
Camera shifts to Cruz, who is in the other room, facing away from the
camera in Morpheus pose. He proceeds to say there is not much time and
that Neo must listen closely. Camera goes back to Neo. He first tells
him to go under the desk and wait. The camera sees Smith walk by,
looking for something but not finding it. Cruz then gives him a series
of directions, telling him to duck, walk this way, stay low, etc,
ultimately leading Neo to him. Cruz is standing with two empty chairs
next to him, and he indicates for Neo to sit in one of them. He gives
Neo a speech similar to the one which Morpheus gives Neo at the
beginning of The Matrix. He finally offers him a Blue pill, which will
cause him to wake up the next morning with no memory of the incident,
or a Red pill, where he can "see how deep the rabbit hole goes." Neo
reaches for the Red pill, Cruz warns him, he takes it with a sip of
water, etc, just like in the movie. Neo immediately becomes drowsy and
falls asleep.
Scene 3: (M: Welcome to the Real World; Exit Mr. Hat)
Cruz explains the situation: Mont Isle is having a celebration, there
is a volcano, etc. He then says that the Island Oracle believes that
he is the only one who can find the answers to his seven questions.
Neo accepts the challenge. Cruz then walks towards a building and Neo
proceeds to follow him. Cruz, cable in hand, tells him that "this may
feel a little funny" and then jacks him in to the Matrix.
Scene 4: (M: Mona Lisa Overdrive)
Neo arrives in the Matrix. He finds Smith awaiting him. Smith says
that he does indeed have the answers you are looking for but will not
give them up easily. He then asks if Neo enjoys playing games, to
which he replies yes. Smith then challenges him to a game of NFL
Blitz. It is apparent from the start that Smith has spent a lot of
time playing the game and Neo has never played it before. Smith is
talking trash, piling on late hits, etc. Late in the game, Neo seems
to wake up and has a tremendous comeback. Smith, bewildered, tosses
him a folder. Neo opens the folder and his eyes light up.
Scene 5: (M: Clubbed to Death, Wake Up)
Neo walks into Cruz's room to find him seated once again. The folder
is in his hand. He then gives Cruz a presentation, answering his seven
questions. Cruz congratulates him. Closing credits roll.
Thank you guys so much!

No offense to you, but what the hell does this project have to do with
science????? What the hell is your teacher doing? Somebody should slap him
in the face (I know this might be difficult, since his head is probably up
his ass). What does he hope you'll learn with this "project"?

Well, the seven questions I mentioned might have something to do with
it... also, it is a she.
Does anybody have some constructive criticism about the actual story?

What are the seven questions?
More importantly, what should be a more important part of a science project?
The plot of a witless rip-off of a movie, or the actual pursuit of science?
I think your science teacher has her priorities mixed up. This IS a science
class, isn't it?

OK, look man - I didn't come for help with the science part of it.
This is a _Matrix_ discussion group. And I'm sorry you think it is
witless, this is not a script - it is just a plot outline. Not to
mention that I would've appreciated it if you would've told me in what
ways it is witless, and how to add wit. We are done shooting and trust
me, there is a lot of wit. My science teacher does not care about the
plot - I care about the plot, my classmates care about the plot.
To anyone who actually has something constructive to say, I am done
with the shooting so it is a moot point now.
